USDA Requests Stay On Court Ruling That Would End the Pork Checkoff

The latest chapter in the pork checkoff saga continues. USDA Tuesday asked for a stay of the U.S. District Court judge's decision that the pork checkoff program is unconstitutional and should end Nov. 24. USDA made the request to the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals.

It's not clear when the Appeals Court will issue their decision or if they'll grant the stay in this case.

This keeps the situation still somewhat fluid relative to the future of the checkoff program that funds research and promotion efforts on U.S. pork.

Meanwhile, no word has come yet on whether the cattlemen bringing a suit against the beef checkoff have filed their promised appeal of a judge's decision that the beef program was constitutional.
